If you plan to take an examination with Prof. Dr. Grell, please register for the consultation hour using the link on the homepage. There is no limit on the number of participants; everyone who wishes to take the examination will be accommodated.

For the oral state examination (30 minutes), please prepare two topics. Bring an overview of the literature you have engaged with during your studies to our first consultation. Simply stating, “I attended lecture XY/seminar YZ…” is insufficient. One week before the exam, you will prepare three to five statements for each topic to trigger the academic dialogue.

For the written examination, you must prepare two (or three) topics. After our consultations and examining your prepared list of literature for each topic, I will prepare three examination questions for your written examination. However, the organising Federal Office will remove one of the topics so you can choose between two questions/tasks for your written examination.

A confident understanding of basic pedagogical concepts is expected during the examination. If you are unsure about which topics you would like to be examined on, here are some topics that students frequently mention:

  • Teaching and learning with media
  • Learning theories
  • Didactic models
  • Digital media in school contexts
  • Mobile learning
  • Teaching and learning with video games
  • Media socialization
  • Media literacy
  • Media education
  • Theories of “Bildung”

Of course, you can suggest individual topics from the whole spectrum of educational science, e.g a certain historic approach you would like to discuss, a specific (social science) theory and its impact on educational science. I am happy to help to develop a specific topic.
